For the first time in history, AUS to have a Chess Club; Arghadeep Das is the coordinator.

Chess is a world famous game of sheer intelligence that is played by the most brilliant minds of our planet. It is no news to anyone that the game of Chess originated from our nation, India itself. However, the game of chess is not that popular among the students of Barak Valley; this changes now.

Assam University recently issued a notification, informing that the university, for the first time in history, has constituted a Chess Club. The Assam University Chess Club is the first such club in the history of this university. This development has the potential to increase the interest of more people of this university and the valley in the magnificent game of chess.

Arghadeep Das, a student of the Department of Library Science, is the coordinator of this club. He is also the Assistant General Secretary of Cachar District Chess Association. The other members of the club are; Bedanta Pratim Medhi of the Department of Pharmaceutical Science, Anuradha Chakraborty, a Ph.D. Scholar from the Department of Microbiology, Priyabrata Sinha of the Department of Physics, Dewan Rakibul Islam of Department of Computer Science and Hironmoy Malakar, LDC, Exam Branch.

The notification further informs that Shri Rajesh Aldarthi, Assistant Professor of the Department of Library Science will be acting as the Teacher Advisor of the Club. "The Teacher Advisor will preside over all meetings of the club and supervise all events and activities of the club, which will be coordinated by the Coordinator." read the notification.

Expressing the joy of this development, the coordinator of this newly formed chess club called it a great news. Arghadeep Das, the coordinator of the chess club stated "This is a great news for all the chess enthusiasts in and around Assam University Silchar. I hope that this endeavour will ignite intellectual pursuits in the students of Assam University."

The formation of this club is a great step towards the game of chess and chess players. This will encourage and motivate new players to come forward and will keep the legacy of chess alive on the campus of this university as well as in the valley.
