The Origin Story of Internet
During the 1960s Computers used to be huge! as much as so that it would take up an entire room, this is when the story of Internet began. In 1962 a scientist named J.C.R. Licklider proposed a network of computer which could talk to each other. This proposal led to the formation of ARPANET ( The Advance Research Projects Agency Network ) & it was a great success but membership was limited to certain academic and research organizations who had contracts with the United States Department of Defense. In 1969 the first ever message was sent to one computer from another through ARPANET. One of the computer was located in a research lab of UCLA and the other one was located at Stanford. The message sent was “Login” but only the letters “LO” was received. In 1971 Ray Tomlinson developed a system to send mail between 2 users of ARPANET, that is what now we call Electronic Mail or Email for short.
