The Origin Story of Internet

During the 1960s Computers used to be huge! as much as so that it would take up an entire room, this is when the story of Internet began.
In 1962 a scientist named J.C.R. Licklider proposed a network of computer which could talk to each other. This proposal led to the formation of ARPANET (The Advance Research Projects Agency Network) & it was a great success but membership was limited to certain academic and research organizations who had contracts with the United States Department of Defense. In 1969 the first ever message was sent to one computer from another through ARPANET. One of the computer was located in a research lab of UCLA and the other one was located at Stanford. The message sent was “Login” but only the letters “LO” was received.

In 1971 Ray Tomlinson developed a system to send mail between 2 users of ARPANET, that is what now we call Electronic Mail or Email for short.
Vinton Cerf in 1970s invented a way to introduce all the computers across the globe to eachother in a virtual place and it was called “Transmission Control Protocol” or TCP for short. It was later known as Internet Protocol or IP. He is now known as an American Internet pioneer and is also recognized as one of “the fathers of the Internet”. In 1983 January the 1st TCP was adopted by ARPANET as their standard protocol, which is why 1st January 1983 is actually considered the official birthday of Internet. Prior to this all the various computer networks did not actually have any standard way to communicate with each other.
In 1991 a computer programmer Tim Burners Lee invented World Wide Web and changed the entire defination of Internet. It was no more a data sharing space for scientist, it was now an entire network full of information accessible to each an everyone with an Internet Connection.
In early 90s Browsers were developed for people to easily acess Internet. Multiple browsers were created and all these Browsers influenced the present browsers to work smoothly and give its user the best internet experience. During this period some companies started to provide dial-up internet connection. In this method the telephone line used to connect the computer to internet through a modem. There was a time when a person couldn’t use their Telephone and Internet at the same time.
Different ways to use Internet developed even further and soon public were able to use wifi and have internet on their mobile phones. At present due to internet, searching for something is quite easy. We can search to gain knowledge or to order some furniture or even food, infact Pizza is the first thing that was ever purchased on Internet. Through Internet now everything is possible. During this harsh time of COVID19 Crisis when entire world is in Lockdown, people are still able to continue their work and education through the help of Internet.
Internet also brought new ways to stay connected with the world and social media is among them. But, today isn't the day to tell the story of social media, that I'll do in some other day.
